A classic 35-metre catamaran accommodating no more than 32 travellers, Eco Abrolhos offers a laid-back Kimberley experience with ample time to explore all the outback coast’s iconic highlights, plus a few secret spots too. Throughout your cruise you will be able to access locations such as Horizontal Falls, Montgomery Reef, King Cascades, King George River & Falls and much more. There’s also the opportunity to view both Wandjina and Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw Paintings) rock art sites and time to try your luck at landing a barra’ or two!
What separates the Eco Abrolhos Kimberley itinerary from some others is that it is designed with more active travellers in mind. Now, you don’t have to be young and super fit, or a marathon runner, but aboard Eco Abrolhos the crew offer a vast range of activities that reward guests with a fantastic cross section of all The Kimberley has to offer. You’ll have ample opportunity for hikes to rock art sites, swimming in freshwater swimming holes, beachcombing and more.
When it is time to explore, Eco Abrolhos’s four custom-built expedition tenders feature powerful 140Hp engines, forward facing central seating and high sides. These are the perfect viewing and photo platforms. The folding front stairs makes boarding comfortable and easy and the full walk-around sides make fishing a breeze. Having multiple tenders allows Eco Abrolhos to cater to the varying needs of guests. Perhaps some travellers wish to climb a waterfall while others would prefer to explore myriad creeks spotting wildlife. That’s no problem on the Eco Abrolhos.
Onboard, Eco Abrolhos offers four different grades of accommodation. The top-end King Bed Deluxe Staterooms feature spacious surrounds with plenty of comfort, and the Queen bed cabins are also incredibly popular. The Lower Deck cabins have bunk bedding (plus a porthole, air-con and private en suite) and are ideal for the more budget conscious travellers, or a great deal for single travellers cruising on their own.
Aboard Eco Abrolhos there’s plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The Dining Room seats all travellers for meals (with open seating), there’s a comfortable indoor lounge and a great observation deck lounge up top, the ideal spot to take in a Kimberley sunset with a cooling drink in hand after a busy day of exploring.
2024 Eco Abrolhos Schedules & Prices
Eco Abrolhos has eight departures on offer during the 2024 Kimberley season, with four operating between Broome & Wyndham (Kununurra) and four between Broome & Darwin.
Having the option to choose whether you start or finish your trip in Wyndham or Darwin adds a high level of flexibility in planning your pre and post cruise arrangements. For example, if you’re wanting to add the Ghan railway to your cruise then starting or finishing in Darwin is a no-brainer. Likewise, if you’re keen to visit Kakadu then Darwin is a great choice as well.
However, if you’ve got your heart set on some time in the East Kimberley, then Wyndham (Kununurra) will be your ideal starting or finishing location. Basing yourself in Kununurra, you could take a cruise on the Ord River to Lake Argyle with Triple J Tours or spend a couple of nights out at El Questro. And of course, there’s also the World Heritage-listed Bungle Bungle Range (Purnululu National Park), which can best be accessed from Kununurra.
